FAQ

What ages can be seen?
VirtualMed Iowa is here to serve the whole family. We can see birth through adult. There may be certain conditions that may not be appropriate for some age groups to be seen virtually. A caregiver must be present for all visits for patients under the age of 18.
Do I have to be in Iowa for my visit?
Due to telemedicine law, both the patient and provider must be in Iowa during the telemedicine visit.
Can you do telehealth with a minor if parent is not in same physical location?
Yes! Please let VirtualMed Iowa know that minor and parent are not in same location and link can be sent to both to be on video together during the visit.
What tools /equipment do I need at home?
For most telemedicine visits all that is needed is a device that has both a webcam and microphone (i.e. cell phone, desktop, tablet). We also ask that you participate in the visit from a quiet and private space. For certain conditions having additional tools at home may be helpful. This includes scale for weight, bp cuff, thermometer, pulse oximeter, ear camera, smart watch or manual pulse check.
Can I get school/work notes?
Yes! We can send you school/work note as deemed appropriate.
Can I get my visit note faxed to my PCP?
Yes! With your permission and their fax number, we can send them any information you would like from our visits.
Can I be seen for something other than listed services?
While VirtualMed Iowa strives to be comprehensive in their care, there may be a service you would like to be seen for that is not on our list. Please send an email or call the office number for further questions. If you are already an established patient, please send message through patient portal and we can clarify prior to scheduling. *All appointments are reviewed prior to scheduling so if we feel the concern/condition is not appropriate for virtual medicine, we will notify you and help you coordinate care.
Are there any circumstances where my health concern cannot be addressed with virtual medicine?
There may be times where the provider feels it would be more appropriate to be evaluated in person. If this is the recommendation, the provider will help coordinate that care.
